Nell Van Zant

Nell Van Zant, age 90, of Summer Shade passed away on Monday, February 06, 2023 at the MonroeCountyMedicalCenter. Born on March 27, 1932 in Summer Shade, she was a daughter of the late Nova Witty Cawthorn and Jesse Herbert Cawthorn. Nell was a member of the SummerShadeMissionaryBaptistChurch. She was formerly employed at Handmackers.

   She is survived by three daughters, Linda Muse of Glasgow, Janet K. Van Zant – Welsh of St. Jacob, Illinois, and Susan Smith (Thomas) of Summer Shade; six grandchildren, Emily McCallister (Jamey), Wendy Gaffin (Thomas), Erin Miller (Brett), Nicki Anderson (Dustin), Jonathon Kingrey (Crystal), and Jordon Kingrey (Shellynna); seventeen great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

 In addition to her parents, Nell was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ernest Maxie Van Zant; one son, Douglas Maxie Van Zant; two grandsons, Jeremy Van Zant and Daniel Van Zant; three sisters, Lavon Hunt, Lucille Johnston, Christine Witten.

  Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February 11 at 1 P.M. from the chapel of McMurtrey Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 10 from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M., and will continue on Saturday, February 11 from 8 A.M until service time at 1 P.M.
